STEP 2: GET TO KNOW THE MARKET

Technology Sector Overview:

  • Software & Digital Platforms: Development of software and digital platforms for business and entertainment.
  • Tech Hardware & Equipment: Design and supply of essential tech hardware.
  • IT Services: Consultancy, implementation, and maintenance services for IT.
  • Telecommunications: Infrastructure for digital communication and connectivity.

Trends: Keep up with top technologies like Machine Learning, Gen AI, Robotics, Blockchain, and Big Data.

STEP 3: CREATE YOUR TOP COMPANY LIST

0. Pick the type of company you want to work for:

  • Start-up: a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a focus on innovation and adaptability.
  • Scale-up: still fast-moving, usually offers more resources and structure as it grows.
  • Established company: stablished tech company typically provides more stability and established processes.

1. Research Companies:

  • Visit their websites and learn more about their business.
  • Follow them on LinkedIn for updates.
  • Network with Alumni: Talk to at least 3 alumni in your interest area using LinkedIn or connecting with alumni in the events organized by IE.

2. Identify Key Details for Each Company:

  • Determine their subsector.
  • Find roles that interest you (check the IE Career Portal, company website, LinkedIn, and other job search engines).
  • Discover one tech trend the company is utilizing (this will be super helpful when preparing for the application process).

3. Prepare for Applications:

  • Research interview experiences on Glassdoor
  • Work closely with Your Career Advisor.

Action Steps:

  1. Make a list of top tech companies you're interested in.
  2. Research and follow these companies.
  3. Network with alumni for insights.
  4. Identify roles, trends, and prepare for interviews.
  5. Use a spreadsheet (available for download) to track your internship/job applications and preparation.

STEP 4: CUSTOMIZE YOUR CV

1. Create Your CV:

  • Use the IE CV Template (available on Blackboard under Career Development Training).

2. Tailor Your CV:

  • Incorporate keywords and insights relevant to your sector/area of interest.
  • Align your skills with those required in job descriptions using tips from this section.

3. Upload Your CV:

  • Convert your CV to a one-page PDF.
  • Upload it to the Career Portal for IE Career Platform opportunities. Follow the provided instructions here for uploading.

STEP 5: BOOST YOUR PROFILE

UPSKILLING

  • Data Science: Analyzing and interpreting complex data to make informed decisions.
  • SQL: Database management and querying language for managing structured data.
  • Python: Versatile programming language used for web development, data analysis, and AI.
  • AI: Developing intelligent machines and algorithms to simulate human thinking.
  • Java/Software Development: Creating applications using Java, a robust, high-level programming language.
