Focus on Contributions, Even If You’ve “Only” Done Internships
Don’t worry if you haven’t had years of experience — what matters most is showing how you made a difference, even in small ways. Recruiters know what an intern’s basic tasks are — so your CV shouldn’t just list responsibilities. Instead, highlight what you contributed during your time there.
Ask yourself:
- What did I help improve, fix, or support?
- Was I involved in a project, campaign, or process?
- Did my work lead to something being done faster, more efficiently, or with better results?
Even if you supported a team or shadowed someone, there are still ways to show initiative, curiosity, or helpful input — that’s the kind of evidence of potential recruiters love to see.
Craft Accomplishments That Show Impact, Not Just Tasks
Using the right keywords is essential — but how you frame your experience matters just as much. A common mistake is listing generic job responsibilities instead of showcasing real results. Recruiters don’t just want to know what your job was — they want to know what you contributed, how, and what changed because of it.
To frame your accomplishments, use the XYZ formula:
- Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y], by doing [Z]
For example, increased online sales by 18% YoY by optimising product descriptions and implementing A/B testing.
