The Campus Corner: From Food Finds to Fashion Week (Plus a Surprise) πŸ‘€

Marina Maeso - Wednesday, April 8
 Campus Corner

Welcome back to The Campus Corner! Every two weeks, we bring you closer to the people behind your program—not just as your experience team but as locals who love sharing the best of Madrid. We want to build a more personal connection with you and help make Madrid feel like home.

In each edition, you’ll find our favorite spots, from hidden cafes to campus must-visits. Whether you're looking for a brunch spot or just curious about what we love around the city, we hope our picks add something special to your day.

Let’s keep exploring together—enjoy this edition and we'll see you in the next one! GuiΓ±o

Meet Jorge

Born and raised in Madrid—but almost always questioned about my nationality because I “don’t look Spanish” (whatever that means). Yes, I’m one of those who pronounce Madrid with a “z.”

I’m the Program Specialist for MSMC on the Business Masters team. What does that mean? I’m the one handling all those behind-the-scenes admin and logistics tasks—whether it’s coordinating with professors or helping you, the students. I also get to do the fun stuff: organizing events, visits, and Immersion Weeks.

At work, you’ll rarely see me without my giant water bottle (hydration is key, folks!) and a big smile—always ready with a bad joke or two. If I’m not checking my inbox, I’m probably updating my To Do list—I love bringing order and logic to my day.

Before this role, I worked in marketing—mainly in the medical and audiovisual sectors—and also in events. One of my favorite past roles was organizing massive events for La Vuelta (Spain’s cycling tour). Wild ride, literally.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I never miss a plan. I’m that friend who gets everyone together and makes things happen—group chats fear me (in the best way).

Any go-to activities?
If I’m not trying out a new restaurant, I’m probably at the movies. Team MARVEL forever—and yes, I’m one of those people who say Nolan is the best director. No regrets. I also love going to the theater whenever I can—and if there’s a good party, count me in.

How about traveling?
Absolutely! I love exploring new places whenever I get the chance. Got any recommendations?

🍣 Sushi Pop Madrid: Sushi That Pops (Literally 😍)

Okay, imagine this: you’re wandering around Madrid after class, craving something different, not the same old tapas or late-night bocadillo… and then — boom — Sushi Pop happens. Think bright, playful sushi bites that are as fun to Instagram as they are to eat (yes, people are talking about this sushi trend popping up in town).

This place isn’t about tradition — it’s about good vibes and bold flavors that make dinner feel like an event. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite between seminars or making it your next group dinner spot, Sushi Pop is all about fresh sushi with a twist and a casual, upbeat atmosphere that’s perfect for your Madrid life right now. πŸ±πŸ’¬

If coffee runs through your veins OR wine does...πŸ˜‰

Too late for a flat white, too early for a glass of wine? Welcome to that delicious dilemma—and welcome to BLU Coffee & Wine. Why choose when you can have both?
At BLU, they serve up specialty coffee for your focused mornings and signature wines for your well-earned study breaks (or emotionally-charged group projects πŸ₯²).

Recommendation: This sun calls for a Espresso Tonic and the “La de casa” toast (avocado, hummus, feta, tahini & lime = chef’s kiss) in their terraza. As for the wine? We recommend you trust their taste, it's always good.

✨ Madrid Turns Runway Ready — Fashion Week Is Here

Hey fashion lovers (yes, you too 😌), it’s that time of year again — Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid is hitting the city from March 17–22, 2026, and it’s basically a whole vibe. πŸ”₯

This isn’t just some runway show — it’s Spain’s biggest fashion bash, where designers you (might) know and ones you will want to know show off their latest collections across IFEMA MADRID and even cool city spots around town. From buzzy big names to fresh talent on the rise, it’s the perfect excuse to break from your routine and soak up some creativity, color, and serious style inspo. πŸ’ƒπŸŽ¨

Plus, there’s even collabs like LaLiga Fashion Night blending fashion and sports, it’s Madrid energy in full effect. πŸ‘ŸπŸ‘”

πŸ—“οΈ When: March 17–22, 2026
πŸ“ Where: IFEMA and select city venues around Madrid
🎟️ Why: Shows, trend spotting, style inspo, people-watching… all of it.

This week is a must-experience slice of Madrid culture — runway included. ✨

Fermented & Fabulous πŸ§€πŸ·πŸΊ

Cheese. Wine. Beer. The holy trinity.. but interactive.

OD Hotels is hosting a Cross Tasting of Wine, Beer & Cheese in the heart of Ópera (Plaza de Isabel II), and it’s basically a masterclass in flavor without the boring part.

πŸ—“ Select dates: March–July 2026
πŸ’Έ €30
πŸ‘₯ Limited spots

Two artisan cheeses. Two wines. Two beers.
Guided by sommelier Álvaro Vera, who turns every sip and bite into a conversation. You’ll compare, contrast, and probably discover you’ve been pairing things wrong your whole life.

It’s giving foodie energy. It’s giving cultured (quite literally).

And if you’re staying at OD? Book directly for welcome amenities, flexible cancellation, early check-in/late check-out (subject to availability) and the best price guaranteed. A tasting and a soft life upgrade.

🧘‍♀️ Chill, Shop & Move — Born Living Yoga Pop-Up Is Here!

Heads up, crew! From March 13–29, Born Living Yoga is taking over a pop-up space at Calle Belén 4 with wellness vibes, activewear inspo, and good energy — every day from 11:30–20:30. πŸ•ΊπŸ§˜‍♂️

Drop by, try on some gear, strike a pose, and let the pop-up give your week that little extra boost.

Born Living Yoga’s community energy makes this more than a shop — it’s a mini lifestyle moment right in Madrid. 🧘‍β™€οΈπŸ€

πŸ“… When: March 13–29
⏰ Time: 11:30–20:30
πŸ“ Where: Calle Belén 4

Local Status: Upgraded

You’ve officially been in Madrid long enough to stop taking photos of every balcony… but not long enough to have seen everything. πŸ˜‰

Good news: Pasea Madrid opens registration on March 18th, TODAY, and it’s basically your excuse to finally explore the parts of the city you keep saying you’ll get to “one day.” We’re talking free, guided visits to historic buildings, hidden corners, cultural landmarks, and neighborhoods you’ve probably walked past a hundred times without knowing their backstory.

Here’s the game plan: registration opens at 10:00 for 65+ and at 12:00 for everyone else — and spots go fast, so set a reminder and treat it like concert tickets. 🎟️

You live here now. You know your café order. You have opinions about neighborhoods. It’s time to level up your “Madrid local” status.

Check it out NOW. Let’s go explore the city properly. πŸ‘Ÿβœ¨

✨ Cirque du Soleil OVO Is Here... and It’s Magical

Alright, this one isn’t just a show — it’s an experience you’ll be talking about for weeks. OVO by Cirque du Soleil lands in Madrid from March 19–22 at the Movistar Arena, and it’s exactly the kind of unforgettable night out you deserve. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸŽπŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ

Picture this: a colorful, vibrant world of insects come to life, crazy acrobatics, jaw-dropping choreography, live music, and that signature Cirque magic that makes you forget you’re in an arena and not inside a storybook. πŸžπŸ•·οΈβœ¨

There are multiple showtimes across those four days — evening and weekend slots — so there’s probably one that fits your schedule. 🎟️ Grab your tickets before they’re gone (seriously — people are hyped for this one) and make it a night out with friends, a date night, or just a “because-why-not” cultural ritual.

πŸ—“ When: March 19–22, 2026
πŸ“ Where: Movistar Arena, Madrid
πŸŽͺ Why: Mind-blowing circus acrobatics, color, and energy you actually need in your life

Trust me — this isn’t just a circus. It’s Cirque du Soleil. πŸŒ€β€οΈ

🌞 Saturday Plans? Sorted. See You at Olavide

Okay friends — cancel the “we’ll see what we do” group chat. The Festival by Olavide is back on March 21, and it’s exactly the kind of wholesome-but-fun Madrid plan we love.

Plaza de Olavide turns into an open-air market filled with local designers, art, handmade pieces, cute finds for your piso, good food, and live music — all with that sunny Chamberí energy that makes you remember why you chose to live here. πŸ›οΈπŸŽΆ

It’s low commitment (just show up), high reward (you’ll absolutely find something you don’t need but suddenly can’t live without), and perfect for a slow wander with friends before terrace season fully takes over.

πŸ“ Plaza de Olavide
πŸ—“οΈ March 21
⏰ Usually runs late morning through the evening

Go for “just a quick look.” Stay for the vibes. πŸ’›

Campus Bites: Greta Salad Bar

πŸ₯— When You’re Low-Key Over Honest Greens…We said it. Sometimes you just need to switch it up. If your usual bowl is starting to feel a little too predictable, let us introduce you to Greta Salad Bar — just a 15-minute walk away and very ready to become your new go-to.

Think fresh, colorful, build-your-own goodness that actually feels exciting again (and yes, still exam-season approved). Plus, now that the weather is finally cooperating β˜€οΈ, that short walk there? Romantic. Necessary. Main-character energy.

New season, new salad spot. Trust us on this one. πŸ’š

🍀 Corvina: Your New Go-To Spot for Fresh Mexican Coast Vibes

Okay, listen — if you thought all Mexican food in Madrid was just tacos and burritos, think again. Corvina is this laid-back, super tasty cevichería bringing authentic Mexican seafood flavors right to the city (think ceviches, aguachiles, shrimp cocktails and more) that actually make you feel like you’re seaside somewhere warm and sunny. 🌊

Whether you’re glass-clinking with micheladas or sharing a fresh ceviche with friends after a long week of classes, it’s the perfect informal dinner or weekend hang-out spot — and with two locations in town, it’s easy to swing by after a long day of exploring or writing that thesis. 🍹✨
