American Bank Sees Customers Withdraw Around $10 Billion in Crypto
Customers of Silvergate, a bank in the US that is listed on the NYSE, have withdrawn a total of $8 billion worth of cryptocurrency deposits in the last couple months. The bank was forced to sell off over $5 billion worth of assets in an effort to stay liquid. As a result of such a shock, the company’s shares have greatly decreased and they have also been forced to conduct layoffs.
Apple Introduces Audiobooks Narrated by AI
Apple has implemented an AI text to speech technology in the Books app which narrates books with human voices. This feature is only available for certain books and requires permission from the author, however it will most likely become more prevalent in the near future. Ultimately, this technology has the potential to reduce narration costs for authors and to disrupt a multi billion dollar industry.
New Virtual Reality Technologies Unveiled at CES
A company called OVR technologies has showcased a new VR accessory at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Nevada, US. This accessory allowed VR users to smell their virtual surroundings by creating different scents. The president of OVR technologies believes that scent is vital to virtual reality in order to fully be immersed in it, and the company stated the accessory will be available within the next year.
