How to Start Working Out
Hello lifters! Welcome to our eleventh edition of the official IE Weightlifting Club Newsletter. Following the string of last week’s newsletter, let’s talk about how to start working out! If the idea of going to the gym feels overwhelming, you should know you’re not alone…
Most people don’t struggle because of hard training, but because they don’t even know where to start.
The truth is you don’t need a perfect routine, perfect form, or perfect motivation. There will be never the perfect moment, so just start at now. And for that, you just need a simple entry point.
So let’s debunk some irrational fears we all share when it comes to hitting the gym!
The 3 biggest beginner fears
-
“People will judge me.”
Actually, everyone in the gym is focused on their own workout. Truly.
-
“I don’t know what to do.”
Nobody starts knowing. Learning is part of training.
-
“I won’t be consistent.”
Consistency comes after you start, not before.
What actually matters in your first weeks
-
Show up
-
Keep it simple
-
Train at your own pace
Forget complex programs. Forget extremes. Progress comes from repetition, not perfection.
Strength is not just lifting heavy!
Holding a plank, hanging from a bar, sitting against a wall, these are all strength.
Functional, accessible, and will have a positive impact in your life.
You don’t need to “get fit before joining the IE Weightlifting Club.”
Joining is how you get fit.
If starting has been on your mind, take this as your sign.
Come move, try, learn, and improve with people doing the exact same thing. We are a strong community, and although we love high PRs, that is definitely the least important part of you!
See you in the gym.
