Dr. Lindstam’s research focuses on comparative politics and political psychology, with a particular emphasis on identity politics in India. She explores how changes in national symbols—such as textbook content, street names, and public monuments—shape minority communities’ sense of belonging. Her work also investigates whether a social group’s perceived importance to the nation influences its ability to participate in public discourse.
Using rigorous causal research designs, including surveys, lab experiments, and natural experiments, Dr. Lindstam sheds light on the political and psychological dynamics of national identity. Her research is published in esteemed journals like the British Journal of Political Science, Electoral Studies, and the Journal of Political Institutions and Political Economy.
This talk promises to offer valuable insights into the evolving landscape of national identity in India and its broader implications.
