Wayne Holmes (PhD, University of Oxford) is full Professor of Critical Studies of Artificial Intelligence and Education in the UCL Knowledge Lab, IOE (UCL's Faculty of Education and Society), at University College London. He is also a Senior Researcher at the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence, under the auspices of UNESCO (Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia), an Associate Professor (Adjunct) at the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia), and a Foreign Expert at Beijing Normal University Zhuhai (China).

Having been involved in education throughout his life, Wayne brings a critical studies perspective to the connections between AI and education (AI&ED), and their ethical, human rights and social justice implications.

Wayne's policy work includes advising the ministries of education of Portugal and the UK, being a consultant for multiple units in UNESCO, and leading the Council of Europe’s expert group on AI and education (which is developing a legal instrument to regulate the use of AI in education in order to protect the human rights of teachers and students). He is also advising the United Nation's Special Rapporteur on the right to education about AI&ED, and is a member of the expert group for the United Nations' UN Secretary-General's High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence.

Finally, he has given invited keynotes on AI and education in more than 20 countries around the world (including Brazil, China, Colombia, Croatia, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Oman, Poland, Slovenia, and the US), and invited talks in many others.
