Dr. Samuelson is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, teaching architectural technology courses. Her research focuses on building design issues that impact human and environmental health. Her current projects harness advanced building simulation to investigate heat vulnerability, indoor environmental quality, and carbon emissions while considering the future of buildings in a changing context. Before joining Harvard, Samuelson practiced full-time as an architect (2000-2007) and sustainable design consultant (2007-2008). Samuelson has coauthored over 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers, including a Best Paper award from Energy and Buildings. A recognized expert in architectural technology, she has been interviewed by media outlets, including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the BBC.
About this lecture
This year’s IE School of Architecture and Design Lecture Series addresses a pivotal question in all facets of design: Improving people’s lives. Both a philosophical and a practical endeavour, we are inviting world-leading figures who actively question the meaning and push the boundaries of human-centred design across different contexts and challenges.
