Details

Dr. Mae-ling Lokko is an architectural scientist, designer, educator and artist from Ghana and the Philippines whose work broadly explores the design of value systems around biobased materials. Her work has been exhibited globally, including at the 19th Architecture Venice Biennale, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW), Berlin; Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Nobel Prize Museum, Stockholm; Triennale Milano, the Sonsbeek Biennial and at the Museum of the Future, Dubai. Lokko is an Assistant Professor at Yale University’s School of Architecture, Assistant Director at Yale's Center for Ecosystems in Architecture (Yale CEA) and the founder of Willow Technologies Ltd, in Accra, Ghana.

COMMON(S) takes as its starting point what is held in common: space, resources, systems, futures. Architecture, design andfashion have long celebrated the singular author and the exceptional object. This series asks what happens when we shift the frametoward the collective, the ordinary, and the mutual. How do our disciplines operate within shared social, ecological, digital andpolitical systems? And what does it mean to design not for, but with? COMMON(S) opens a space to think about collective agencyand shared futures.
