How are policymakers attempting to regulate AI? What changes can we expect for organizations, educators, and students? What are the barriers to successful regulation, and what problems remain unresolved?

This session features a debate between Antonio Aloisi and Ted Lechterman. Antonio is Assistant Professor of Law, a member of the Lawtomation Jean Monnet Centre, and an expert in technology and the future of work. Ted is Assistant Professor of Philosophy and holder of the UNESCO Chair in AI Ethics and Governance. His research addresses the moral responsibilities of technology firms and the democratic implications of artificial intelligence. Antonio and Ted will review the state of the art on AI governance from their respective fields with particular focus on the implications of AI governance developments for higher education. After brief presentations, the speakers will debate one another and engage in open discussion with the audience.

His first book, The Tyranny of Generosity: Why Philanthropy Corrupts Our Politics and How We Can Fix It, was published by Oxford University Press in 2021. Lechterman was educated at Harvard and Princeton and completed postdoctoral fellowships at Stanford, the Hertie School, Goethe University, and Oxford.
