This session offers faculty a clear, joined-up framework for understanding neurodiversity, with particular reference to dyslexia, ADHD and autism. Rather than focusing on labels in isolation, the session explores the shared underlying cognitive dynamics that shape neurodivergent thinking and learning, while also highlighting their distinct expressions.
The focus is on supporting faculty to deepen their understanding of neurodivergent learning from a cognitive perspective, and to use this lens to reflect on their own teaching contexts and approaches. Drawing on participants’ expertise in higher education, the session invites a collaborative examination of how current practices may already be supporting neurodivergent students, and where small shifts could further enhance inclusion and learning effectiveness.
The session will highlight practical implications for teaching, assessment and student support, and will include time for a facilitated peer-learning discussion. This will provide a relaxed and safe space for participants to share experiences, reflect together, and consider possible refinements to practice.
