Mahmoud al-Shaer and Muhammad al-Zaqzouq were the editors of 28 Magazine, a platform for Palestinian writers and artists. The war in Gaza forced them to suspend their work for two and a half years, until they recently released a special edition in collaboration with the digital platform Palestine is Everywhere. The issue reflects on the devastating reality of Gaza and on what it means to live through a war held in suspension.
Muhammad al-Zaqzouq — joining digitally from Gaza — one of the contributors to the publication, will speak with Mahmoud al-Shaer, poet and editor of 28 Magazine, about the power of testimony as a form of historical record, a tool for preserving memory, and a literary voice in its own right.
*All proceeds from the project will be donated to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) and the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN).
At the end of the event, the authors will sign copies of their books.

Mahmoud M. Al-Shaer is a Palestinian writer, poet, and cultural manager originally from Rafah. As editor-in-chief of 28 Magazine and founder of 28 Gallery, he works at the intersection of literary and visual practices to explore memory, collaboration, and cultural resistance. He has coordinated projects with institutions such as the Goethe-Institut and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, co-curated the New Alphabet School at the HKW in Berlin, and presented his work at the 12th Berlin Biennale. His most recent book, I Am Still Alive: Dispatches from Gaza (2025), reflects on writing as an existential and political act under siege.
Muhammad Al-Zaqzouq
Writer, editor, and researche
Muhammad Al-Zaqzouq is a writer, editor, and researcher from Khan Yunis, Gaza. His poetry collection Betrayed by the Soothsayers won the Al Khalili Poetry Prize in 2018, and he is co-editor, alongside Mahmoud Alshaer, of Letters from Gaza (2025). He has worked tirelessly to bring Gaza’s literature to the world’s attention. His own writings have appeared in publications such as The New York Review of Books Online and The Berlin Review, and have been translated into five European languages.
