Today’s society is increasingly seeking the human dimension in everyday life: the beauty of imperfection, sensitivity, and authentic emotions. Saturated by consumerism, industrial goods, and virtual, dematerialised relationships, we are searching to recover a natural and deeply human connection. For many, a beautiful life also means a different relationship with nature — one in which the environment does not suffer the consequences of mass production. Reusing, restoring, and giving new life to places and objects have become essential values.
Three leading art experts know this well: Mercedes de Miguel, director of the prestigious Segre auction house; Corisande Albert, ceramic artist; and Belén Llamas Ferrier, president of the Contemporary Arts and Crafts Association. Together, they will discuss why, in turbulent times, tradition and classicism continue to offer enduring and reliable values.

Corisande Albert
Ceramist
Corisande Albert trained as a lawyer and worked as a documentary producer before discovering the creative and therapeutic magic of the potter’s wheel. Her practice focuses on form, light and touch. She creates functional pieces in porcelain and stoneware, using a mixture of glazes, applied by brush and dip, to reflect the soft tones of the Welsh landscape of her home near Hay-on-Wye. Corisande has exhibited at the International Ceramics Festival, Edward Bulmer Natural Paint, The Chair, Found Gallery, Herefordshire Art Week and Larchwood Studios. She has trained with highly talented potters: Katharina Klug, Kyra Cane, Chris Keenan, Simon Hulbert and Jeremy Stuart. She is a member of the board of trustees of the Hay Festival Foundation.

Mercedes de Miguel is a leading art historian and art market expert. Since 2013, she has served as managing director of Subastas Segre Madrid, one of Spain’s leading auction houses, where she oversees the valuation and marketing of works of art, antiques and jewellery. She holds a degree in Art History from the University of Salamanca; she worked as a consultant at Edmund Peel Fine Art Consulting (1997–2008) and was a partner at Fugu Art Projects (2009–2013). She is a member of the advisory board for the Master’s in Art Market and Related Business Management at Nebrija University.
Belén Llamas Ferrier
President of the Contemporary Arts and Crafts Association
Belén Llamas Ferrier learnt her craft in the Geneva workshop of the renowned antique dealer and framer André Buchs, and has been working in the field of art framing for over 20 years. An expert in traditional framing and gilding techniques as well as contemporary frame design, Belén has worked for private collectors, galleries and other institutions in Switzerland and Europe, including the Giannadda Foundation, the Musée de la Réforme, the Krugier Gallery, Jacques de la Béraudière, Biennale Paris, TEFAF Maastricht, Pictet, Rolex and Fabergé… Deeply committed to safeguarding artistic craftsmanship, she regularly collaborates with the prestigious Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship. She is a founding member of the Contemporary Arts and Crafts Association
