In democratic societies, common sense has traditionally been grounded in verifiable knowledge — individuals and institutions sharing information that could be examined and validated by others. Stable democracies depended on the recognition of this shared framework.
German producer Michael Trabitzsch will speak with writer Lorenzo de’ Medici about how this structure is being radically challenged by social media platforms such as TikTok. In this environment, anyone can make claims without evidence, creating a constant stream of idle noise. The conversation will reflect on how this dynamic threatens social cohesion and weakens democratic culture, replacing thoughtful reflection with the fleeting noise of immediacy.

Michael Trabitzsch (Neumünster, Germany) co-founded a small publishing house for books and magazines while still a student of literature and philosophy in Göttingen and Berlin. He completed his studies with a Master’s degree and later earned his doctorate. He began his professional career as a freelance journalist and writer; later, he served as assistant director and production manager for Harun Farocki. From 1990 to 1992, he worked on industrial and advertising films. In 1992, he founded Prounen Filmproduktion and has since produced independent works for television and radio.

Lorenzo de’ Medici is a member of the Medici family, one of the most iconic and representative families in European collecting, from the Renaissance to the present day, and a direct heir to a history intertwined with the world’s most admired art. De’ Medici moves nimbly between different artistic disciplines, as evidenced by the recent publication of his novel El Fiorentino, in which he weaves a story around a family heirloom.
