Requirements
- No previous sailing experience required. This can be your first time!
- Good physical condition and no injuries
- Knowing how to swim
- A minimum of three racing boats (21 people) is required for this event to happen
- We have opened bookings for 3 team boats (21 people) and 2 mixed boats (14 people). We can add three more boats (21 people), if those boats are not rented to other events when the time comes. The sooner you book, the better.

About the IE Student's Regatta
- You'll sail the same fleet of Grand Surprise boats used in the IE Regatta
- Sign up as a team of 7, or register on your own and we'll match you with a crew. To make it even more fun, pick a team color and come matching :)
- Every boat has a professional skipper and sailing instructor on board, so you can learn and have fun, always safely
- The race is right next to Lisbon's 25 de Abril Bridge (the "cousin" of San Francisco's Golden Gate), and the city looks even more stunning from the water
- The marina has plenty of restaurants and bars, so the whole group can stay together for sunset afterwards

We closed the summer on a very high note: in mid-September, 150+ alumni and students from IE and other leading business schools came together in Cascais for the annual IE Regatta, a weekend of sailing, connection, competition and plenty of memorable moments. And we're proud to share that IE won! ⛵

We know that many current students, especially those just starting their programs, couldn't join our flagship inter-school event, since it takes place in mid-September. You'll have more chances in the future, but we didn't want to wait that long to welcome you into our sailing family and show you why our motto is "life is better on a boat."

So this year, for the first time and exclusively for current students, we're recreating the regatta experience on a slightly smaller scale.

Why Lisbon for the long weekend?
- It's easy to mix sightseeing, sailing, great food and lively nightlife
- It's easy to reach by plane, car, van or bus
- There's a wide choice of hotels, high-quality hostels and short-stay apartments

Suggested long weekend plan

Friday:
  • Travel to Lisbon together after classes

Saturday:

  • Morning: Take it slow (you deserve it) with brunch at one of the many spots overlooking the river and the city (Lisbon is the city of the seven hills)
  • Afternoon: Regatta time!

1:45 to 2:00 pm: Meet at Doca de Santo Amaro for the race rules and safety briefing
2:00 to 6:00 pm: Sail and race together. Racing is a different experience from sailing, just like driving a rally is different from driving a car

  • Evening: Sunset drinks, power nap, long shower, then a great night out in the city. Even if you're tired, sailing energizes the mind and soul

Sunday:

  • Explore Lisbon, and don't leave without a well-deserved pastel de nata.
  • Already know the city? Head to Sintra for its fairytale palaces, or to Cascais, one of Europe's top sailing destinations and home of the IE Regatta every September

Monday:

  • Head back to Madrid around midday to rest before the week ahead,
  • or stay for one more day in the city, maybe even at the beach!

However you spend it, you'll go back renewed and happy, probably with a new item on your wish list: to sail again, and keep sailing for the rest of your life. Because, as we always say, life is better on a boat.

VIP Spectators Boat
If you have a limitation that does not allow you to race but you don't want to miss this experience, or if you simply prefer to enjoy it from the sidelines, we will have a VIP spectators boat in the water. This way, you can follow the race from close and support your friends on the water. (Price for VIP Boat is 105 EUR/PP - 50 EUR less than regatta ticket)

Individual Cancellation Policy
Once a boat is confirmed, cancellations are not possible because we cannot split a boat in seven parts. Nevertheless, if you can no longer attend, you can transfer your ticket to a colleague (they have to be a current student as well).
Ticket transfer cost is 25 EUR. Deadline for ticket transfer is Friday, October 9th at 6 pm (Lisbon time). The student replacing you needs to be registered the latest by the same time (even if in waiting list, as we can transfer the ticket manually in the ieconnects platform).
After this day and time, ticket transfers are no longer possible and no refunds will be done.

Event Cancellation Policy
In the case of event cancellation due to weather forecast (e.g. constant wind speed above 18 knots and gusts superior to 20 knots), you will be informed 72 hours in advance of the cancellation and be refunded within 10 working days.
Bad weather is not expected in this time of the year (we never cancelled a regatta before), but with all the uncertainty we are witnessing due to man provoked climate change and natural phenomena (e.g. El Niño), we always need to consider this possibility.
On a more positive note, high winds on the water are not the same as inland, which means you can still have a fantastic weekend in Lisbon, even if the regatta would be cancelled.

By registering, you expressly accept these conditions.
