In global business and international relations negotiations, what you don’t say can speak louder than words—and sometimes cause the biggest misunderstandings. This dynamic 30-minute workshop dives into the fascinating (and often surprising) world of nonverbal communication, exploring how gestures, body language, and cultural norms around personal space, touch, and symbolism shape trust and outcomes across cultures.

Led by Dr. Chris Atanasov Kostov, Professor of International Relations, the session draws on his extensive academic and international teaching experience. With a background that spans modern European history, nation-building, migration, and intercultural relations—and teaching experience in Canada, Austria, and Spain—Dr. Kostov brings rich, real-world perspective to the subtle signals that influence cross-cultural interaction.

Through vivid real-life examples—such as why stepping on a dropped coin in Thailand could derail a deal, how a thumbs-up may offend a partner in parts of the Middle East, or when eye contact signals dominance versus respect—you’ll uncover how silent cues can make or break negotiations. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, including decoding the hidden meanings of everyday gestures and role-playing quick scenarios to identify potential cross-cultural faux pas.

You’ll leave with practical awareness to navigate international meetings with confidence, build rapport across cultures, and avoid costly nonverbal blunders.

✨ Additional perks:
