IE Student-Athlete Program for Segovia Students

Seek Your Greatness

Our Local Integration Student-Athlete Program in Segovia is a unique opportunity for IE University students to continue their athletic development while immersing themselves in the local Spanish culture. Designed for talented student-athletes, this program allows selected participants to join local federated clubs after passing a trial and an interview process with the Sports & Well-being Coordinator.

Through this initiative, athletes benefit from the coverage of federative licensing fees, personal support in adapting to the team environment, and guidance to integrate smoothly into the local community. Beyond athletic training, students enjoy a culturally enriching experience—meeting local peers, practicing Spanish, and developing cross-cultural understanding.

This program is perfect for those seeking to maintain competitive sports engagement while enhancing their international university journey with a rich, local dimension.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

  1. 1

    Open to Segovia students

Stack is built with customization and ease-of-use at its core, whether you're a seasoned developer or just starting out.

  2. 2

    Commitment Beyond Campus

Joining a local federated team means attending regular training sessions and matches—always off-campus and outside of IE University’s academic structure. Time management and personal responsibility are crucial.

  3. 3

    Trial and Selection Process

Admission to the program is merit-based. You must demonstrate sufficient skill level during club try-outs and successfully complete an interview with the Sports & Well-Being Coordinator to be accepted. Proof of past experience will be requested.

  4. 4

    Limited Availability

This program supports a limited number of student-athletes each academic year. Selections are made on a rolling basis and depend on both your performance and the availability of spots within partner clubs.

  5. 5

    Deadline October 15th

As our partner clubs need to secure their teams for the remaining of the season, we won't accept any more applications nor acceptance answers past this date.

  6. 6

    Receive your benefits

As a Student-Athlete at IE University we will cover the fee for the registration with the club. Furthermore, at the end of the year you can claim you 1 ECTS or 2 if you had a captain role.

WANT TO KNOW OTHER STUDENT ATHLETES?

" My favourite memories in Segovia are with my teammates because we formed a small sports family and would hangout weekly even outside of basketball practices and games"

Studying BBA at IE University has been an incredible journey, but what truly made my experience in Segovia unforgettable was playing basketball for Spordeporte. Representing Los Tilos Centro Médico in the Segovian female senior league brought energy, excitement, and a sense of belonging into my life.

Every weekend game was more than just a match—it was a new adventure. Traveling to neighboring cities, bonding with my teammates, and cheering for other club teams created a tight-knit community that felt like a second family. The friendships we built extended far beyond the court, with weekly hangouts that turned into some of my favorite memories.

Training and competing with a local team became the highlight of my two years in Segovia. It wasn’t just about sports; it was about connection, growth, and joy. I was surrounded by an amazing group of people whose shared love for basketball united us in the best way possible.

To any student considering joining the student-athlete program—do it. It's one of the best decisions you can make. Sports have a unique way of bringing people together, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have met such a special group of teammates. It’s not only great for your physical health but also deeply enriching for your social and emotional well-being

We’ve had an incredible season this year, finishing it off by getting promoted to Madrid's 1st Division.

I also had the opportunity to represent Segoiva in the ‘Ciudades Patrimonio de la Humanidad’ rugby 7s tournament that took place in Tarragona, where we placed 3rd overall.

I’ve been in Segovia for the past two years and have enjoyed every moment playing with the local Lobos team. They have been nothing but kind and welcoming to me, and made me feel like a part of the team. I’ve made so many friends with both locals and other students at IE.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am for my time in Segovia. Great team, even better people.

Overall, an amazing experience.

Get stuck in, don’t be shy. It’s important not to isolate yourself; instead, try to get into the culture and socialise with the team.

I’ve met so many amazing people and have made connections that will last me a lifetime.

The Sports and Well-being team is there to help you manage both your training and academic work; all you have to do is ask."
