Sustainability Week 2022

Join the Segovian and student communities in protecting the nature of Segovia on October 29th! We will be cleaning the Hills next to Casa de Moneda and Pradera de San Marcos in collaboration with Ecoherencia, a non-profit organization specializing on climate action!
Tag along and help sustain this wonderful place we call our home and build a stronger bond between the locals of Segovia and the IE Community. If you wish to practice and improve your Spanish, this is especially for you!

Trash bags and gloves will be provided! Do not forget to bring water bottles!

What type of mark would you like to leave in the world? How will you fight climate change?
Come join us tree planting, spend a beautiful morning in Nature, leave a legacy to be proud of and take care of our planet.

We will be meeting at the IE Tower 10AM on the 29th of October to take a low emissions bus to the planting site 20 min away from Madrid. We will be enjoying the outdoors while planting our trees until 13:00.
Expect to be back to the Tower around 13:30

Several local NGOs will be at IE open to inform you about their different activities and how you can get involved. A wide range of opportunities will be available, from mental health to the environment, emphasizing on gender equality perspective.

Join us for a fast-paced, multidisciplinary HACKATHON, in which diverse teams of students and faculty will define and propose a system for transparency and feedback regarding sustainability at IE. What does this mean? We want your ideas on what systems or best practices need to be implemented so that students are informed about how their impact affects the local ecosystem of IE and the global world beyond

The ideas will be judged by a board made up of students, faculty and staff. The winning team will bring their final pitch to the IE Sustainability Town Hall to potentially receive funding and implement their ideas.

Event Schedule:
Phase 0: Before the event
- Provide presentation of concept and examples
- Provide framework/rubric for judging

Phase 1: First brainstorming session
The intention of this brainstorming session is to identify main ideas/best practices that will pertain to the overall vision of the project. In this way, students will have a narrower scope based on their collective thought before drafting their final proposals.
3pm – kickoff event with SSC introduction, describe the purpose and schedule of the project, go through the rubric, etc.
3:15pm – Start Hackathon
3:45pm – Conclude first brainstorming session and present best ideas.

Phase 2: Final Brainstorming Session and Pitch
Teams will now create a detailed depiction of environment, providing logistics such as what each space will be used for, how it pertains to the themes, budget plan, etc.
4pm – Start second brainstorm and finalize idea/pitch in a presentation format.
5pm – Teams present ideas again, a winning team is chosen to pitch their idea to the Sustainability Town Hall
6pm – Event concludes.

Companies and organizations working in the field of sustainability will come to IE Campus (online and face to face) to show what they do, how they do it, and how you can end up working with them.

Student check-in will begin at 9:15 am. Make sure to come dressed to impress. We will have a photographer taking professional pictures from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and from 2 to 4 pm.

Felipe Turell, Co-founder of MO de Movimiento, will join one of our elective courses ¨Gastronomy: The Art & Politics of Eating¨ with Professor Flor Gragera de Leon to speak about the restaurant´s project which is revolved around conscious consumption.

Finding a volunteering project that works for you can be challenging yet so rewarding! Join us for the 1st Volunteerism Fair at the IE Tower on Tuesday, October 25, from 13:30 to 18:00 on Floors 10 and 11, and learn about short and long-term opportunities to contribute to a variety of causes! 

Enjoy a screening of the French-Belgian film Rouge (Red Soil) by director by Farid Bentoumi and a Cannes Film Festival 2020 Selection. The film will be screened in French with English subtitles.
Film description:  An occupational nurse attempts to blow the whistle on toxic waste leaking from a chemical plant.
Following the film, there will be a pannel discussion.

Students, staff and faculty are all invited to give a second life to their clothes, bringing those pieces that they no longer wear anymore and swapping them with other participants. The event will take course over the entire sustainability week, tickets will be given for each fashion item which can be exchanged throughout the week for other items. Any leftover clothes will be donated to IE’s Project Revamp, the upcycling fashion studio.
