The impact of self-doubts in the workplace
Self-critical voices are pervasive, attacking, and judging us, often creating a draining sense of persecutory anxiety. Equally, they are part of human nature and won’t go away that easily.

Where do self-doubts come from?
Research suggests that inner-critical voices originate in childhood, those early years have an impact in adulthood, including our working-life interactions and our ability to take leadership roles. The phenomenon is commonly manifested and known as impostor syndrome.

What is the impact of self-doubts?
- A low sense of self-worth coupled with negative perfectionism
- A distorted view of ourselves and the world around us
- Seeking external validation
- Establishing unbalanced working relationships where we feel less than others

Self-doubts in context
Inner-critical voices can place high self-expectations. Equally, the culture of many of the organisations we work in tend to also place unrealistic expectations on performance. The overlapping pressure of self-demands and the organisation's demands creates a vicious circle of not feeling good enough, many times affecting our mental health.

Strategies to overcome debilitating self-doubts
⎯Self-awareness about the triggers and noticing when self-doubts are creeping in is half the battle
⎯Practicing self-compassion to lower self-criticism and negative perfectionism
⎯Recognising what belongs to you and what belongs to the environment or culture you operate in.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to transform your professional outlook and overcome self-doubt

We look forward to seeing you there!

Her passion for psychology led Veronica to study a doctorate, researching the impact of self-criticism on leaders at a point of transition, which she finds is often a common theme in her work with senior leaders. She has contributed to a book published in 2019 on authentic confidence, where she discusses the origins of self-doubts and the Impostor Phenomenon in the workplace.

Veronica has presented her research findings several times in the past years, speaking to audiences of up to 300 people, in-person and virtually.
