This enriching discussion will be co-led by 3 speakers- Patricia, Paulina and Sinéad, as they share with us their personal experiences on their respective careers and inspire the next generation of female students to dream big.

Sinéad O'Flanagan

Sinead O'Flanagan is a leadership advisor and systems thinking expert. She has held senior academic positions at MIT Sloan School and Norwegian School of Economics and a research fellowship at Harvard Kennedy School, Center for Public Leadership. Her expertise includes pathways for business sustainability and leadership-in-times-of-disruption.
She is an independent Council member on Ireland’s National Economic & Social Council (NESC), a policy advisory body to the Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister). She chaired the NESC “Just Transition” working group, which published its report in March 2020. The report entitled “Addressing Employment Vulnerability as Part of a Just Transition in Ireland” garnered high praise from Ireland’s President Higgins, comparing its importance with the seminal Irish economic Whitaker Report of 60 years ago.
O’Flanagan is a Board member of Ireland’s Higher Education Authority (HEA), policy advisory body for Ireland’s higher education sector. She is Chair of the HEA Finance & Governance Committee.
During her twelve years at MIT, she co-designed and delivered MIT’s Leadership Lab (L-Lab) a flagship experiential course that examined the pressing global issues of leading sustainable businesses, partnering with organizations such as BP, GE, Caterpillar, Ferrovial & The US Navy.
Prior to her academic work, O’Flanagan held senior corporate executive positions, advising on leadership, sustainable business strategy and organizational transformation, while based in Silicon Valley CA., Calgary, Canada and London UK.
She holds a Ph.D. in Strategy & Management from Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), an M.S. in Management of Technology from MIT Sloan School and B.Sc. in Applied Physics from NUIG, Ireland.
Patricia Gabaldón Quiñones

Patricia Gabaldón is an Associate Professor of economic environment at IE Business School and Academic Director of Economics at the School of Global and Public Affairs, at IE University. PhD in Economics, she has developed her research around the role of women in the economy and its effects in economic growth and sustainability. She will talk about the importance of women and gender diversity in leadership positions and boards, focusing on the relevance of women on the impact on goals and processes at the board and later, on the sustainable side of boards, firms and economies.
Paulina Etxeberria Garaigorta

Paulina Etxeberria Garaigorta holds a European Ph.D. in Economics and is Professor of Economics at IE Business School teaching Macro and Microeconomics, Growth Theory and Inequality and Social Justice. Paulina´s teaching encourages students to comprehend the theories, the debates and the progress made by economic science. She also helps students to apply their knowledge in their decision-making about the real-world problems with personal criteria based on contrasted theories and evidence. Her research focuses in the areas of Growth Theory, Innovation and Productivity in modern cities, Education and Human Development.
