Internship Agreements

I've received an internship offer and the company requests an internship agreement.

I'd like to sign an internship agreement through IE - How can I do that?

To formalize this internship, please submit the internship approval request through internships.ie.edu so that your Academic Department can review and approve (or reject) the internship. Once approved, our Internship Agreements team will contact the company to manage the necessary paperwork. See below for a step-by-step overview of the process. To make the process easier, here's an explanatory video that walks you through all the steps:

Alternatively, you can find detailed information on all aspects of the internship process in this FAQ about Internships for Undergraduate Students. We are confident that it will answer most of your questions. If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at bachelors.internshipagreements@ie.edu

And lastly, please make sure you also review the Professional Behavior Guidelines for Internships.

Essential Information About Internships – Please Read

  • INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

    • Students are required to submit their internship approval request through internships.ie.edu at least two weeks before the intended internship start date.

    • The start and end dates must be agreed upon in advance with both your Academic Department and the company. The dates entered by the student in the approval request must match those provided by the company when the Internship Agreements team requests the necessary information.

    • Students cannot begin the internship until it has been approved and all documentation has been duly formalized and signed.

    • If the internship is within Spain, it is mandatory to present a valid DNI/NIE.

    • If the internship is outside Spain, it is not mandatory to present a DNI/NIE. However, if you have one, it is recommended to include it when requesting approval. This allows you to benefit from advantages such as accident insurance coverage for internships abroad and eligibility for the Erasmus scholarship to support your stay in the destination country. For more information, please consult the International Mobility website and the FAQ About Internships for Undergraduate Students under the Erasmus+ section.

    • Students are advised not to modify their internship application once it has been submitted. If changes are necessary, please contact your Academic Department, which will assist you with the process.

    • If students have any questions regarding the type of internship to select, the number of hours they may complete, the number of academic credits they may obtain, or the timeline for receiving a response regarding internship approval, they may review the detailed internship guide for each school through this link or contact the corresponding Academic Department.

Overview of the Internship Agreement Process

Disclaimer: According to our regulations, students are required to request internship approval at least two weeks before the internship start date. This allows the University up to 10 business days to complete all necessary procedures detailed below. Please note that timelines may vary due to unforeseen circumstances, so the collaboration of all parties is essential to ensure a smooth and efficient process.

1. Approval Request

The student completes the approval request via internships.ie.edu, formalizing their commitment to the internship.

2. Status Update

The Academic Department reviews the request and issues a decision:

Rejected: The student receives the reasons for the rejection and the next steps.
Approved/Conditionally Approved: Talent & Careers contacts the company to request the information needed to prepare the internship documents.

3. Company Response

Companies typically respond within three to six business days.

Talent & Careers then manages the internship documentation, consolidating information from the student, company, and Academic Department.

4. Academic Signature

The documents are signed by the Academic Department.

5. Student Signature

The documents are sent to the student for signature and must be returned ASAP to bachelors.internshipagreements@ie.edu

6. Company Signature

The Internship Agreements team sends all documentation to the company for signature. Once received, the internship registration is completed.

7. Internship Reports

Curricular Internships: The student and company must submit the required reports at mid-term (Intermediate Report) and at the end of the internship (Final Report).
Extracurricular Internships: The student and company must submit a Final Report at the end of the internship.

Both forms will be included in the internship approval email sent to the student and in the email containing the internship documents sent to the company.

8. Evaluation

The Academic Department evaluates the internship based on the submitted reports.
