Meeting the Psychosocial Needs of Maltese Cancer Patients Through a Longitudinal Resilience-Enhancing Intervention Program

Areas: Body, Mind, Soul

Emily Ripard

BSS Graduate Student

The program aims to address cancer patients' psychosocial needs to enhance treatment outcomes and psychological      well-being by alleviating distress, fostering resilience, promoting positive emotions, reducing stress, and strengthening coping mechanisms through both internal (personality) and external (environmental) protective factors.

  • Emily's comment about the project

A few years ago I understood, for the first time, the real impact of cancer on both the patient and surrounding family or carers. My mother bravely overcame months of treatment, surgery and recovery - a credit to her outstanding strength and resilience. However, it is also credit to the environment she was in and the support she received from family, friends and healthcare professionals. I believed this holistic support was what saved her life, so I dedicated myself to designing a program for future patients so that they may benefit from the conditions that allowed my mother to still be here today.
